EST Webinar July 2026

As you will be aware, the ChargePlace Scotland contract is coming to an end. Charge point owners have been migrating their charge points to alternative back-office networks through out 2025 and 2026, with the CPS network fully coming to an end in 2027. Drivers can track the progress of the migration via the CPS website, along with FAQs and supporting information on the Transition Resource Hub.

On Friday 3 July 2026, Energy Saving Trust hosted a webinar for drivers who use the ChargePlace Scotland network. The session detailed everything drivers need to know regarding the migration of charge points from CPS to various back office providers.

If you are interested in learning more about the transition and how it may affects you, the recording of the webinar can be found above.

To ensure we provide the most relevant and useful information to help everyone to prepare for the CPS transition, we welcome all who attended or watched the webinar to complete this brief survey. If you would like any more information, please take a moment to review our dedicated webpage on the CPS transition.

Webinar Questions and Answers

Those travelling would likely find a roaming platform for EV drivers to be beneficial. Charge Place Scotland has roaming agreements with Octopus Electroverse, Zap Pay, Paua (for fleets) and All Star (for fleets) and all offer wide compatibility with other networks and back office providers.

(A roaming platform is a digital service that allows EV drivers to access and use charging stations from multiple charging networks through a single account or app. An eMSP is a company or organization that provides EV drivers with access to charging services, typically through a mobile app, RFID card, or web platform. An eMSP (Electric Mobility Service Provider) offers services directly to EV drivers, such as charging apps, payment processing, and access to charging stations. A roaming platform, on the other hand, connects different eMSPs and CPOs (Charge Point Operators) behind the scenes, enabling cross-network charging. While the eMSP manages the user experience, the roaming platform ensures interoperability between networks. As outlined above roaming and eMSP platforms can be beneficial to drivers, as they can enable access multiple charging networks from a single account or app.)

On the CPS website there is a list of all charge points on the CPS network, including their location and owner information, here.

Local authorities are part of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund (EVIF) and are partnering up to migrate their charge points together to a new back office network. A list of the collaborating local authorities can be found on this website here, evif-project-pipeline. Once the partnerships have procured an alternative back office network, this will be communicated out to all drivers via the CPS website and through localized communications.

Charge points not owned by local authorities will migrate to alternative back office network once the owner has chosen a new network. Charge point migrations can be tracked on the website here.

All charge points will need to be migrated to an alternative back office network, irrespective of their power rating. Decisions relating to charge points including the new back office network, operation, maintenance, location, tariff and which network they use are decided by the charge point owner.

CPS and Transport Scotland do not own the public charge points on CPS. Most charge points will be transitioning to a new back office rather than being removed or replaced.  However it will be the decision of the owner to upgrade, replace or keep existing charge points to be used by drivers.  Information on who owns a charge point can be found here.

CPS RFID cards will still be active on charge points that remain on the CPS network. Transport Scotland also recognise that providing more charging options when travelling across Scotland is a key priority. Charge Place Scotland has roaming agreements with Octopus Electroverse, Zap Pay, Paua (for fleets) and All Star (for fleets). Roaming platforms such as these will allow access to charge points moving off CPS to be accessed so long as the network they move to is signed up to those platforms. Information will be available on the CPS website and map advising which charge points are moving to which network providers, ensuring you can sign up to any relevant platforms if you are not already a member.

In addition, drivers will be able to use contactless pay, where available, as well as each new operator’s own mobile app and/or RFID card.

The UK Government produced the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 to ensure that the experience of consumers using public charge points across the UK is consistent. Within these regulations any new charge point above 8kw and any existing charge point 50kw and above, require a contactless payment reader. As charge points get replaced and upgraded across Scotland, there will be more and more contactless readers on all new charge points (above 8kw).
